Album Review

Synth pop fans had reason to celebrate when Wounded Bird had the good sense to reissue X-periment and Pleasure Seekers on a reasonably priced two-for-one single disc in 2005. While none of the tracks on here are as superior as their breakthrough hit "Don't Disturb This Groove" or "You Are in My System," there are plenty of songs that will please the ears of the most die-hard devotee. Fans of modern day boogie producers such as Daniel Wang and fellow New York duo Metro Area will find happiness in the infectious, walking synth bassline and sparse production that balances the fine line between synthetic and organic instrumentation throughout most of these tunes, especially in the disc's leadoff track "I Wanna Make You Feel Good." There are moments of filler, but the solid techno-funk found throughout is forgiving of that notion, and fans of post-disco pre-house from artists such as D Train, Cameo and Slave would be well-served in giving this a listen.
