Released in 1984,
Bill Monroe & Friends found "the Father of Bluegrass” sharing the stage with some of modern country’s most commercial artists (
Barbara Mandrell,
Gatlin Brothers), as well as contemporary bluegrass and folk giants like
Ricky Skaggs and
John Hartford. Bill Monroe and Stars of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame followed a similar path in 1985, with
Monroe crooning with the likes of
Bobby Hicks,
Mac Wiseman,
Jim & Jesse,
the Country Gentlemen, and
Del McCoury. This “two-fer” from Raven includes both albums in their entireties, as well as three bonus cuts and a detailed booklet.
