Album Review

Released in 1984, Bill Monroe & Friends found "the Father of Bluegrass” sharing the stage with some of modern country’s most commercial artists (Barbara Mandrell, Gatlin Brothers), as well as contemporary bluegrass and folk giants like Ricky Skaggs and John Hartford. Bill Monroe and Stars of the Bluegrass Hall of Fame followed a similar path in 1985, with Monroe crooning with the likes of Bobby Hicks, Mac Wiseman, Jim & Jesse, the Country Gentlemen, and Del McCoury. This “two-fer” from Raven includes both albums in their entireties, as well as three bonus cuts and a detailed booklet.
