I’d let to get a little serious for a moment because I’m genuinely concerned for my friend, Dylan, and feel the only way to make him wake up is to publicly shame him.

Today you heard about how Dylan was approached by the Church without walls organization. His Dad apparently “invested” some money with them a number of years ago and his investment is now going to be given back in the form of a gift of over $100 000 which Dylan must give away to others. These people sent him a package in the mail (so they have his address), and they told him all they need is his bank number. So Dylan started up a new account and gave them that account number. Dylan thinks he’s safe because the account is empty but what he has done is actually ridiculously stupid. Here’s why:

The “church” (and I use that term loosely) already has Dylan’s name and address. By going on his facebook, they can get his birthday. (Hell, they can go in to the archives of this blog and get it from there too) and they already they have his bank info. With this info they can take over his account, open new accounts and take out credit without Dylan ever knowing it until it’s too late.

Nevermind that the “church” has a questionable past. It could be from someone else altogether that is posing as that church. Who gives away $100 000?? Don’t be like Dylan, don’t get scammed. If it’s too good to be true, IT ALWAYS IS!

And Dylan, close that account and invest in some kind of identity guard insurance. I would encourage everyone to please leave comments here or on facebook to publically shame Dylan into smartening up.
